The red room
The novel (The Red Room) was published in 1879, coinciding with a period of significant transformations in Swedish society and worldwide. It depicted the difficult birthing pains of transitioning towards a parliamentary representative society and democratic life. It faced multi-faceted suppressing factors, resulting in scathing, satirical narrative critiques of everything established that hindered the progress of life towards the better. It created scenes that made each of its chapters a play in itself.
