The third part of Naguib Mahfouz's famous trilogy. The events of this part take place between the mid-1930s and early 1940s, witnessing the greatest number of transformations in the life of Sayyid Ahmad Abd El Gawad's family. The protagonists of the previous two parts recede into the background, either due to death or voluntary withdrawal from life, while the generation of grandchildren takes center stage after becoming young adults, each with their own desires and orientations. "Kamal" shares the spotlight, observing the transformations and perpetually engrossed in contemplating people and events.
