Princes of Eloquence 1/2
These papers depict ten vivid portraits of ten masters of eloquence. We undertook to describe their eras in politics and civilization, attempted to allude to the important factors in their upbringing and lives, sought to analyze their literature and knowledge, and presented areas of excellence in their surviving works. We translated the biographies of Abd al-Hamid ibn Yahya al-Katib, Ibn al-Muqaffa', Sahl ibn Harun, Amr ibn Mas'adah, Ibrahim ibn al-Abbas al-Suli, Ahmad ibn Yusuf al-Katib, Muhammad ibn Abd al-Malik al-Zayyat, al-Jahiz, Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi, and Ibn al-Amid; these are the ten heralded masters of eloquence in the flourishing Arab era, when the Arabic language became the language of civilization and science, and in the first century, it was the language of religion and literature.
