It is difficult to highlight the conflict between good and evil in this life, and let's say that a person can be completely normal, yet cruelty lurks in the depths of their soul. How will this person act in times of crisis? Which will triumph within them, good or evil? Is any human inherently evil or good? Are they good until a certain moment? Aitmatov's main philosophical theme is humanity, its psyche, nature, and behavior in different situations, as the writer believes that "the wonderful thing about man is precisely: how human he is," and what unites his works is the attempt to search for humanity within humanity.
