When I met Omar ibn Al-Khattab

He was twenty-six when the Prophet's prayer, "O Allah, strengthen Islam with the more beloved of these two men to You," struck his heart. Thus began the story: a prayer that pulled him from the collar of his disbelief to the light of Islam, rescued him from the mire of vice to the pinnacle of virtue, and drew him from Dar Al-Nadwah to Dar Al-Arqam. Omar the Jahili (pre-Islamic) was perfectly prepared to become Omar Al-Farooq! All he needed was restructuring and reformulation, for Islam does not abolish human nature but refines it, and does not destroy qualities but polishes them.
