What is left of the West?
There are two factors that may drive the end of the West's era and dominance: the West's internal contradictions and crises on the one hand, and the emergence of "rising" powers on the global stage on the other, in addition to the illusion of an alleged "Islamic threat." We should clarify what we mean by the West: When was it born? Where? On what foundations? Did it arise in Athens with the emergence of ideas of citizenship and freedom, or in Rome with the creation of Roman law, or in Jerusalem with the first coming of evangelical ethics and eschatology, or in the Middle Ages, or did its birth coincide with the birth of universities, the expansion of cities, and the Industrial Revolution? And was the West formed with the advent of liberal democracies and the creation of democratic and liberal institutions?
