Theory of interpretation
The reading of al-Ghazali's intellectual history has followed two contradictory paths. In the first path, it forms a dark chapter in the history of Islamic thought, dictating that the future should be a critique of the past and better than it. In contrast, the second path views al-Ghazali's thought with respect, reverence, and veneration, in accordance with the saying, "There is nothing better than what has been." The issue of interpretation in Imam al-Ghazali's work has not received the research it deserves, except in a small number of studies by contemporary Arab researchers, but without the core of the problem being interpretation itself. This has alerted us to the importance of focusing on studying the hermeneutics of "Hujjat al-Islam" (Proof of Islam) away from uncertain and unscientific claims.
